Strong sunlight and high temperatures: guavas also need sun protection
Guavas in the Yilan area are about to enter the harvesting season. Recently, with intense sunlight and rising temperatures, the risk of fruit sunburn has increased. The HDARES of the Ministry of Agriculture reminds farmers to reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer and to cover the sun-facing side of the fruit with kraft paper or discarded fruit bags for sun protection to minimize fruit damage. The Lanyang Branch of the HDARES has newly developed sun protection bags for guavas, which can reduce damage to the outer canopy fruit exposed to direct sunlight by up to 60%. These will be provided to the industry to improve the issue of guava sunburn during summer.
