Selecting the phalaenopsis with fragrance, two or more stalks, beautiful flower color and shape is the breeding program in Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station. Phalaenopsis Hualien Pink Apple ‘Hualien No. 1- Pink Apple’ was selected from the hybrid population crossed the pink, medium-spot variety Phal. Leopard Prince and the flowery, stripe-line variety Phal. Hualien Lit-Caroline. The characters of the new variety are as follow, two flower stalks, good branched performance, and early blooming in 2.5-inch diameter pots. The fragrant, light red-purple flowers are flat, and lip is deep red. There are few spots and stripes on petals and the flower length is about 7 cm. Furthermore, the plants are strong and it would flower before February and could besupplied in the Chinese New Year market without forcing. Phal. Hualien Pink Apple ‘Hualien No. 1- Pink Apple’ is attractive because of bright color and high quality performance of flowers, and it has potential for export. The variety registration was applied in May 2015, and the right of new phalaenopsis variety was approved in November 2015.
