The HDARES held the “Yilan Fallow-Field Low-Carbon Cultivation Demonstration and Field Tour for Azolla (Green Manure)” on November 10 at farmer Chien Wan-Deng’s demonstration field in Wujie Township, Yilan County. The event shared the Station’s recent research in Yilan, which explores replacing the conventional green-manure crop sesbania with azolla during the fallow period. Based on a three-year field trial and survey, the results showed that substituting azolla can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reflecting the spirit of sustainable agriculture—an approach that farmers have strongly endorsed.
