Precision Breeding Meets Market Success: “You-Ai Tomato” Wins National Innovation Award
The Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, Ministry of Agriculture, has long been devoted to crop disease-resistance breeding and precision agriculture research. Its small-fruited tomato variety, “Hualien No. 24 – You-Ai,” developed with multiple disease-resistance traits including strong resistance to viral diseases and outstanding quality, has been licensed to Jixian Fruit Co., a partner supplier of PX Mart, for commercial promotion. Sold under the product name “Yan-Hong Tomato” through PX Mart and PXGO! channels, it has become the first small-fruited tomato variety developed by the Ministry of Agriculture to be licensed to a large-scale retail chain system. This achievement successfully demonstrates how laboratory research results can be transformed into commercialized supermarket logistics and product applications, earning recognition with the National Innovation Award.
