The HDARES Joins Hands with Shlin Township Office and Indigenous Communities to Promote the Hualien Mountain Litsea Industry
In the past, mountain litsea seedlings were mostly obtained through traditional slash-and-burn practices, which limited the quality and source of the seedlings and posed a threat to the environment. To promote a more sustainable industry, the Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station of the Ministry of Agriculture transferred its “Propagation and Cultivation Techniques of Mountain Litsea” to the Shlin Township Office in 2023. The township office then established a special task force to lead the initiative and mobilize indigenous community members to participate in the industry’s development.
So far, the Station has provided over 400 high-quality seedlings. Moving forward, the Station, the Shlin Township Office, and the Truku people will continue to strengthen their collaboration to support the thriving growth of the mountain litsea industry in Hualien.
