The Sinan area of Datong Township, Yilan County, comprising Siji Village and Nanshan Village, is Taiwan’s largest high-altitude vegetable production area. However, long-term continuous cropping and climate change have led to increasingly serious pest and disease problems. To safeguard farmers’ income and provide more cultivation options, the Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, Ministry of Agriculture, began trial cultivation of the emerging crop hops in the Sinan area in 2024. After two years of trials, the cultivation of hops has proven successful, laying a solid foundation for the development of a new agricultural industry.
