Buckwheat from the sky- Workshop on the UAV labor-saving sowing technology demostration

The buckwheat planting area of the grain production-and-marketing-group 2nd of Yuli Township in Hualien County is 655 hectares, the highest in the country. In order to save labor costs, the HDARES has studied the use of drones for seed spreading. The results show that the application of drones to sow buckwheat can improve the operation efficiency by more than 5 times. It can achieve the carbon reduction effect of no plowing and reduce production costs by nearly 5,000 NT dollars per hectare. The HDARES uses buckwheat as the target, as the starting point for the research on labor-saving application of drones. In the future, more labor-saving cultivation operation models for regional characteristic crops will be established to alleviate the problem of agricultural labor shortage and promote the expansion of domestic agricultural drones.
