Breeding Process ：

Green onion variety ‘Futsun-Lanyang No.3’ was released by Hualien District Agricultural Improvement Station in 2000. The commercial name is called ‘Futsun’. The breeding program was proceeded since 1991, and finished in 2000. The observation trials, line comparison trials, regional trials, fertilizer trials, planting density trial, main diseases and insects survey, component analysis and color analysis were conducted sequentially.

Plant characteristic ：

Green onion variety ‘Futsun-Lanyang No.3’ is characterized with more heat tolerant and higher yield potential than ‘Lanyang No.1’. The yield of ‘Futsun-Lanyang No.3’ was 36 MT/ha in summer crop and 39 MT/ha in autumn crop. The deficient ratio in summer crop was only 3%. Summer season, especially in May till October, is recommended as the optimum planting date for ‘Futsun-Lanyang No.3. The suitable regions for cultivation are Yilan and Hualien county.
